This major upgrade to the UIS web site in 2012 is an effort to make our site more user friendly while at the same time making it easier to maintain. UIS first went on line back in 1994 thanks to the efforts of Peter Matthews (Australia) who organised and created our first web site. The space was provided by the Geography Department of Melbourne University (Australia) with the help of Dr. Brian Finlayson. When we registered our own Internet domain name, Andreas Neumann (ETH, Switzerland) provided the DNS and other services. Then since 2004 Stefan Näeff of Switzerland has very kindly donated our web space and Internet facilities. Manuel Freire of Portugal became our second Website Manager in 2006, making many improvements including the basis of this new website, and our web forum facilities. Jasmina Rijavec of Slovenia has now (2012) taken over as Manager, and by her skill and hard work has brought this new site to fruition. We also want to thank the efforts of the many speleologists and cavers who have shared their knowledge and time with their contributions to improving the quality of the web page contents and facilities including Roger Taylor (Australia), Peter Stavropoulos (Greece), Fernando Andreu (UK), Josh Bailey (USA), and our 2012 backroom team of Ken Redeker (USA), Emerson Gomes Pedro (Brazil), and Charles Goldsmith (USA). Peter Matthews remains on in the background as an occasional consultant. While the time and talents of these volunteers went into the production of this new site, there are also others who need to be recognized. Listed below are the names of individuals and web resources that helped make this re-design possible. header imagesThe header images at the top of web site were taken by Rob Eavis, England; banner photographsThe bottom left banner photographs on the home page were provided by Rob Eavis, England; Invitation: all speleologists and cavers around the world are invited to share their caving photos.
