Volunteer Speleo Positions Available

Below are volunteer speleo positions which are available in UIS and
other speleo organisations. If you would like to contribute to the
advance of speleology by doing any of these jobs, please email
the listed contact person directly, saying why you think you
could do the job.
People in UIS or in other speleo organisations who are looking for
volunteers to help with their work are

15th International Congress of Speleology volunteers
Kerrville, Texas USA, July 19-26, 2009 -

Audio-Visual:
- 2 to 3 volunteers to set up band equipment before the Wednesday night
party (chance to hang with the Terminal Syphons!);
- 3 to 4 volunteers who are familiar with projectors and presentations to help
us monitor the sessions, debug equipment malfunctions (be a hero that saves
the presentation).
Possible need for help setting up audio for the banquets.

Vendor and Exhibits:
- 1 volunteer needed to help set up and check in on vendors.
All day
prior to Congress;
- 1 volunteer to touch base with vendors during the week, approx. 1 hour
per day.
For extra credit in Heaven, the same person may apply for both tasks!

ICS Banquet and Food Tasters:
- NSS Banquet: 2-3 hours that Friday, decorating, opening wine!
- ICS Banquet: 2-3 hours that Saturday, decorating and odd jobs.

SpeleOlympics:
- Timer/Judge for Cable Ladder Competition;
- Timer/Judge for Obstacle Course Competition.

Congress Services:
- Liason with travel agent;
- Liason with hotel staff.
These volunteers will simply stay in touch with travel agent and
hotel staff before, during and after convention to make sure that everything is running smoothly.

Cultural and Family Trips
For those of you who would rather boat, shop, hike, wrestle with killer
whales and horseback ride than go to meetings or caves here is the perfect
volunteer opportunity. Trip leaders get free admission on the outing they lead.
You may sign up for more than one. Projected times leaving and returning to
Kerrville next to each trip. Trips with * require the trip leader to drive the
van.
Monday:
- San Antonio Riverwalk and Alamo (2 trip leaders needed) 9am-5pm
Trip includes a full day on the Riverwalk and the Alamo including a
Riverboat tour
- Kayaking on Guadalupe (2)* Not yet established - probably 4-5hrs
A trip down a section of the Guadalupe River from Hunt.
Tuesday:
- Sea World (1) 9am-6pm
Trip includes admission to park
Thursday:
- Shopping in Fredericksburg/Hiking at Enchanted Rock (1) 10am - 5pm
Trip stops first at Fredericksburg for lunch. Shoppers remain in
Fredericksburg
while others continue to Enchanted Rock for a couple hours of hiking.
Shoppers are
picked up on the way back.
- YO Ranch Tour (1) 9am-2pm
Trip includes tour of YO Ranch and chuckwagon lunch
Friday:
- San Antonio Missions Historical Park (2) 9am-5pm
Trip includes visit to several of the missions on the south side of San
Saturday:
- Kayaking on Guadalupe (2)* Not yet established - probably 4-5hrs
A trip down a section of the Guadalupe River from Hunt.

Coordinator for Cultural and Family Trips
Tourist Trips:
- Trip Leaders for fun and touristy places.
Seaworld, Canoeing, Hill Country Winery Tour, San Antonio Riverwalk.

Drivers:
- Drivers, 25 years or older, with a valid standard drivers license for
15 passenger vans trips throughout the ICS.

Caving Day Trips:
- Lead day caving trips during the convention, ranging from nearby caves
to further away begin NOW to visit caves and meet landowners.

Translations:
- Bi or Multi Linguists sought to prepare documents for the website and
prior to ICS;
- Super Friendly multi linguists to volunteer to wear tags during ICS
identifying which language(s) you speak and helping visitors with questions
in that language.

Information Desk Coordinator:
- This person will recruit a team to staff an information desk near ICS
registration to provide information on the ICS, local sights, and amenities.
The coordinator need not be from Texas, as long a good, knowledgeable (or trainable!) crew
is recruited.

Child Care Coordinator:
- This person will recruit a team to provide day care for children 0-6 years
of age.
A room at the ICS will be provided for child care, but the coordinator will have to provide
supplies for feeding, entertainment, cleaning, etc.,
and develop a budget
for service to recoup expenses (the ICS will pay immediately reimburse expenses so the coordinator will not lose any money).
